Abstract
Background and Objectives Nurses working in hospital environments interact with diverse patients, which exposes them to severe stress and anxiety that may threaten their quality of life. Experimental evidence shows that quality of life is influenced by various factors. Marital justice and marital spirituality are two important components that affect psychological and biological communication needs. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to predict the quality of marital life based on marital justice and marital spirituality among married female nurses in Ahvaz.
Subjects and Methods This was a descriptive and correlational study the statistical population of which included all married female nurses in the city of Ahvaz in the year 2024, who were selected as the sample and participated in the study. The Revised Quality of Marital Relationship questionnaire, developed by Balibi and colleagues, containing 14 items across three components—marital agreement, marital satisfaction, and marital cohesion—was used to measure the quality of marital life. Marital justice was assessed using the Marital Justice Scale (Hatfield et al.), which consists of two subscales: distributive justice and interactive procedural justice. To measure marital spirituality, the questionnaire by Perez et al. (2012) was employed, covering dimensions such as relationship with God, traditional worship practices, intimacy, forgiveness, partnership, and existential aspects. Data analysis included descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), correlation coefficients for relational analysis, and regression analysis for predictive modeling.
Results The results showed that marital justice has a positive and significant relationship with the quality of marital life. The relationship between marital spirituality and the quality of marital life was also positive and significant. Regression analysis revealed that marital justice played the most important role in predicting a high quality of marital life, showing a clear and strong effect. Marital justice alone accounted for 22% of the variation in marital quality, while the combined effect of marital justice and marital spirituality predicted approximately 31% of the variance in the quality of marital life.
Conclusion Nurses who experienced greater marital justice were better able to manage challenges, had a deeper understanding of their spouses' emotions, and reported higher levels of satisfaction and intimacy in their relationships. In addition, marital spirituality played an important role as a positive moderator in enhancing the quality of marital life among nurses.
