Abstract
Background and Objectives Sleep is one of the most important circadian cycles and a complex biological pattern. Medical education is very demanding and affects the emotions and feelings of the individual, and medical students are exposed to high academic and clinical workloads that may lead to high stress that affects their general well-being. This study aimed to evaluate sleep quality and its impact on the quality of life among medical interns at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences.
Subjects and Methods This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 188 medical interns at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. The World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHO-QOL-BREF) questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life of the participants, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire was used to assess sleep quality.
Results Interns had a sleep quality score of 7.29, indicating that their sleep quality was inadequate. There was no statistically significant difference in sleep quality between women and men, single and married individuals, or dormitory residents and local students. The study also found that as the sleep quality score increased (indicating poorer sleep quality), the quality of life of medical interns decreased across all components examined.
Conclusion Sleep quality significantly affects the quality of life of interns. Therefore, further research is essential to identify effective ways to improve students' sleep quality, enabling policymakers and managers to implement targeted strategies that enhance students' well-being in the future.
