Introduction: The involvement of the anus and the surrounding skin is one of the common complaints in the gastrointestinal clinic, however, neoplasms of the anal canal and skin are unusual. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and pathological findings of benign and malignant lesions of the anus.
Materials and Methods: All patients who were referred to the pathology department of Shahid Sadoughi Hospital in Yazd during the years 2006 to 2016 with a primary diagnosis of anal lesions who underwent biopsy or excision were enrolled in the study. Demographic data including age, sex, clinical signs, and histopathologic diagnosis were entered into the pre-prepared checklist. The data were analyzed by SPSS software. The values of PV​ Results: Out of 1662 patients 934 were men (56.2%) and 728 (43.8%)were women. The mean age of patients was 42.4 with a deviation of 15.7 years and the range of changes was 15-87 years. The most common malignant tumor was anus adenocarcinoma (76.5%) and then malignant melanoma (17.6%). The prevalence of malignant tumors in men is higher than in women. The most common symptom in patients with malignant tumors was bleeding. The most common benign hemorrhoid lesions (66.5%). The majority of benign lesions were under the age of 50 years and the most common clinical symptom in tumors was a ​benign tumor (63.3%).
Conclusion: In this study, contrary to other studies, anus adenocarcinoma is the most common tumor with a higher frequency in males.
