Effect of Aerobic Interval Exercise Training on Serum Levels of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and Indices Anthropometry in Overweight and Obesity Patients

Backgrand and Objective: Low levels of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D are associated with obesity and anthropometricindices. Therefore,the aim of this study was to determine the effect of aerobic interval exercise training on serum levels of 25-OH Vitamin D and anthropometric indices in obesity and overweight women.
Subjects and Methods: In this research semi-experimental study, 20 obese and overweight women aged between 30 to 50 years. and  mean BMI of 31.71 ± 2.59 Kg / m2 referring to the Ahvaz Jundishapur University Clinic were selected purposefully. and randomly They were divided into intervention and control groups. The training program consisted of 30-45 minutes of aerobic interval exercise with intensity of 50-70% and 40-4540% of maximum heart rate, respectively, 2 minutes of exercise and 2 minutes of active rest, 3 sessions/ week for 8 weeks. Anthropometric and serum level of  25-hydroxyvitamin D were measured before and after intervention in both groups. Data analysis was performed using independent and dependent t test at a significant level (P ≤0.05)
Results: After eight weeks of of aerobic interval exercise training, a significant increase was observed in levels serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (P=0.002). Which was associated with a significant decrease in body fat percentage, waist to hip ratio and body mass index in overweight and obese women (P <0.05).
Conclusion: Eight weeks of aerobic interval exercise training can improve body composition and increase serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in overweight and obesity women.
