Abstract

Background and Objective: Because most patients with back pain wish to treat themselves by noninvasive techniques, the purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness the exercise therapy and selected yoga exerciseson chronic low back pain.
Subjects and Methods: In this semi-empirical and applied study, 45 female patients of Najafabad city with inclusion criteria and diagnosis of chronic low back pain were selected for entry into the study. The subjects were randomly divided into three equal groups: control, exercise therapy and selected yoga exercises. Pain intensity as the pre-test and post-test were measured using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Exercise and yoga treatment protocol during 3 months (3 sessions/week for 12 weeks and 60 min duration) was performed on the test groups. Duirng this period, the control group did not perform any treatment. Data were analyzed by SPSS software 16 and presented with t -test, one way ANOVA and LSD.
Results: Both selected programs of exercise therapy and selected yoga exerciseshad meaningful effects on reducing low back pain (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between their impacts on reducing chronic low back pain, (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Both exercise therapy and selected yoga exercisestreatments can be effective for reducing chronic low back pain.
