Abstract
Abstract
Objective: Low back pain is pain that occurs below the chest, mainly in the lumbar, lumbosacral, and buttock areas, and can radiate as localized pain. It is also a common musculoskeletal disorder in developed and developing countries. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to determine the effect of exercise protocols on lumbopelvic muscle thickness, motor control, range of motion, and endurance in patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain.
Methods: The study was conducted using a systematic review method. To identify the desired studies, Persian and English electronic databases and keywords such as lumbopelvic muscle thickness, pain, motor control, range of motion, and endurance of nonspecific chronic low back pain were used.
Results: 14 studies with a total of 554 subjects (186 men and 368 women) with a mean age of 35 years (35.03) in two control (142 inactive and 45 active) and exercise (367) groups met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the present study. The studies showed that the exercises presented can have a significant effect on reducing back pain.
Conclusion: This scoping review showed that various exercise protocols are effective in reducing pain, but core stability exercises have a greater effect on improving muscle thickness and range of motion. Also, the combination of core stability exercises and Pilates was identified as the most effective strategy for improving proprioception and motor control in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain.
