Abstract
Background and Purpose: type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex heterogeneous group of metabolic conditions characterized by increased levels of blood glucose due to impairment in insulin action and/or insulin secretion. The SLC30A8 gene is considered as one of the most important candidate genes of type 2 diabetes.
analysis method:In this case-control study, 135 patients and 76 healthy subjects were contributed. 5cc peripheral blood of diabetics and healthy subjects (controls) was collected in EDTA-containing tubes. Genomic DNA was extracted using salting-out method and polymorphism genotype was investigated using PCR-RFLP method.
Results:Genotype and allele frequencies of the rs13266634 polymorphism differed significantly between type 2 diabetic patients and non-diabetic subjects (P = 0/0003 and P = 0/0664 , respectively). The frequency of C allele was 89% in type 2 diabetes group and 67% in non-diabetic subjects, and this allele was significantly associated with type 2 diabetes risk (OR = 10/0, 95% CI 1/9124 – 591/3058 , 2/924 – 924/239)
Conclusion:Our results confirm the association between the rs13266634 polymorphism of the SLC30A8 gene and the increased risk of type 2 diabetes in the west Mazandaran papulation.
