Comparison of Post-Operative Complications of impacted mandibular third molar surgery with Two Osteotomy Methods: Piezosurgery versus conventional rotary instruments

Abstract
Background and Aims: Extraction of impacted mandibular third molar is one of the most common oral surgeries and it's followed by complications like swelling, pain and trismus. Different strategies are used to reduce these complications and one of them is use of different osteotomy technic. Recently the piezosurgery method for osteotomy was introduced. In this study we are going to evaluate the post operative complications of piezosurgery and rotary osteotomy technics.
Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 12 patients with eligibility criteria as a randomized controlled trail in a period of 10 months in ahvaz faculty of dentistry. In every patient surgery was performed twice one with rotary technic and once with piezosurgery technic. In both technic post operative complications were measured. T test was used for analyse of date.
Results: Mean measures of pain, swelling and trismus was less in piezosurgery technic in comparison of rotary technic. Only results of pain were analytically significant (P value < 0.05).
Conclusion: Patients undergoing piezosurgery in comparison of rotary surgery experience less pain, swelling and trismus.
