Relationship between speech anxiety situations and severity of stuttering in 12-32 years persons who have stuttering

Abstract
Background: According to effects of linguistic, cultural and social factors on severity of stuttering, by identifying the situations and conditions that influenced the stutterers more than others, we can identify effects of situations and control and use them in generalization stage of treatment. The aim of the present research was exploring of the relationship between anxiety-causing special speech situations and severity of stuttering by using Subjective Screening Of Stuttering at 12-35 year old persons.
Method: The present research was a cross-sectional study that involving 30 subjects aged 12-35 year that refer to the speech therapy clinics in Isfahan. In an oral speech dialog for 5 minutes in a quiet room, severity of stuttering based on the percentage of stuttered syllable was calculated and after those subjects filled Subjective Screening Of Stuttering.
Result: Result of the present study showed that the differences between the severity of stuttering in 3 situations of Subjective Screening Of Stuttering, were not significant totally, but in the dual comparison between the situations, there were the significant differences between the severity of stuttering in speaking with close friend and empower person were significant.
Conclusion: According to the result of current study, we can say that in speaking with empower person, for subjects in this study, were more difficult and influence on severity of stuttering, avoidance and control of speech.
