Abstract
Background and Objectives Developmental coordination disorder (DCD) is a neurodevelopmental condition in children. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of bilateral coordination training on coordination skills in 7-to-11-year-old students with DCD.
Subjects and Methods This quasi-experimental study utilized a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. Thirty children aged 7–11 years with DCD, as defined by Wilson et al. (2000), were selected using a purposive sampling method in Ahvaz city. Following the pre-test, participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental (n=15) or control (n=15) group. The training protocol was implemented in the experimental group over eight weeks with three 30-minute sessions per week. Eye-hand coordination was measured using the Frostig Advanced Visual Perception Test and a two-hand coordination test. Statistical analysis involved dependent t-tests and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), performed using SPSS version 21. The level of significance was set at P≤0.05.
Results After intervention, a significant improvement was observed in bilateral coordination (P=0.001) and eye-hand coordination (P=0.001) in the experimental group.
Conclusion Based on the findings of the present research, a bilateral coordination training program can be used to improve the coordination skills of children with DCD.
