Abstract
Background and Objectives Assessing the satisfaction levels of family members caring for patients in intensive care units (ICUs) is crucial for evaluating the overall quality of patient care. This study aimed to measure the satisfaction of patient companions in ICU settings at Ahvaz teaching hospitals during the second half of 2023.
Subjects and Methods This was a cross-sectional study including 385 family members of patients admitted to ICU.
Results The mean score of satisfaction was 73.53 ± 18.92. While factors such as gender, education, and age did not significantly impact satisfaction, companions living with the patient (p=0.003) and those whose patients had longer hospital stays (p<0.001) reported higher satisfaction levels.
Conclusion Patient companions reported the highest satisfaction with their involvement in patient care but expressed the lowest satisfaction with their participation in decision-making processes. This suggests that family members may not be adequately involved in patient care decisions. Improving the satisfaction of patient family members in intensive care units is crucial, as it directly correlates with overall patient satisfaction and can significantly enhance the quality of care provided. Therefore, developing strategies to address this issue is essential.
