Comparison of the Serum Level of Vitamin D and Uric Acid and insulin resistance in obese subject with and whithout metabolic syndrom in Ahvaz

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the serum levels of vitamin D and uric acid and insulin resistance in obese subject with and whithout metabolic syndrom in Ahvaz.
Methods: In this study 86 obese (BMI>30) who were referred to Diabetes clinic evaluated. They divided in two case (obese subjects with metabolic syndrome) and control groups (obese without any signs of metabolic syndrome). Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 22.
Results: Thirty one (54.3%) in obese subject had metabolic syndrome and 14 (48.2%) had vitamin D deficiency. There was no significant difference in serum levels of vitamin D among obese and non-metabolic syndromes (P>0.05). The insulin resistance in obese people with metabolic syndrome was significantly higher than obese people without metabolic syndrome (P <0.05). There is no significant difference between diabetes status in obese and non-obese subjects with metabolic syndrome (P>0.05). The serum level of insulin in obese people with metabolic syndrome was significantly higher than obese people without metabolic syndrome (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in serum vitamin D and uric acid in obese and non-metabolic syndrome with insulin resistance (P>0.05). There was no significant difference between serum vitamin D levels and uric acid in obese and non-insulin dependent metabolic syndrome (P <0.05). There was no significant correlation between serum uric acid and insulin resistance in obese and non-diabetic obese subjects (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Insulin resistance in obese subjects with metabolic syndrome appears to be more common in obese than non-obese subjects.
