Abstract

Backgrounds and Objective: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is most effective adult reconstructive orthopedic procedure. The implant includes acetabular(cup) and femoral part. Cup-Angle in sagittal plan, Inclination; influences wear of prosthesis. In this study we tried to assess the results of Inclination on functional outcome and quality of life in two groups of patients with Inclination≤45 and >45 degrees.
Subjects and Methods: In this prospective study which was carried out on twenty patient who undergone THA between March 2012 and 2014 in Ahvaz Razi Hospital. Mean age was 54.35 (Range25-78) and 11 men and 9 women. Patients were divided in two groups with an Inclination ˃45 and ≤45. Before the operation , Modified Harris Hip scores were completed for each patient. The mean follow up was 17.5 months (Range 6-24). Xray was taken monthly until six months and after 1 and 2 yr of follow up. MHHS completed at end of follow up period and results were compared between groups. Variable scoring and data were analyzed with paired T test, Wilcoxon, and Man-Whitney tests.
Results: 12 patients had Inclination≤ 45 and 8 patients had Inclination >45. Mean total score before and after THA were 33.45& 68.35. Analysis of data showed that pain، limping، need for walking-aid، ability of walking, ability of staring، shoe-wearing، sitting-time، limb leg discrepancy and range of motion were not significantly different between two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion: This study suggests that cup Inclination does not influence the functional outcome and quality of life in THA patients on follow up.
