Abstract

Background and purpose: At the beginning of the outbreak of a new epidemic, when the evidence related to disease predictors is limited or not effective, prioritizing hospitalization criteria can play a central role in optimizing health care services. The present study was carried out with the aim of investigating and comparing the criteria for hospitalization of patients who had covid-19 symptoms and were admitted to the hospital with covid-19 diagnostic-therapeutic guidelines.
Materials and methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, all the cases who had covid-19 symptoms and were hospitalized at the hospital from the beginning of the pandemic until the end of the fifth peak of the disease (2286 patients) were investigated. The tool used in this study was the checklist for gathering demographic and clinical information on covid-19 patients. Statistical analysis was performed using the Chi-square test.
Results: 47.9% of the patients with moderate symptoms and 49.1% of the patients with severe symptoms, according to the guidelines had at least 3 symptoms.
Conclusion: The above-mentioned results indicate the good conformity of the hospitalization criteria of suspected covid-19 patients that are admitted to the hospital with the criteria in the covid-19 diagnostic-therapeutic protocol issued by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education (11th edition).
