Abstract
Background and Objectives Diabetes is a serious and chronic metabolic disease that, if not identified and cared for in a timely manner, can lead to complex and multi-system complications. Therefore, the quality of care is of particular importance as one of the rights of these patients. This study was conducted to determine the quality of care provided to patients with Type 2 Diabetes within the Family Physician Program in Jahrom city during 2024.
Subjects and Methods This was a cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted in Jahrom city during 2024. The target population included all patients with Type 2 Diabetes covered by the Family Medicine program. A sample size of 150 participants was selected using a multi-stage random sampling method. Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire developed in accordance with the latest Type 2 Diabetes care guidelines. Performance scores for the physician and health care provider were calculated by reviewing electronic patient records. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 21. In addition to descriptive statistics, Mann–Whitney U tests and Chi-square (χ2) tests were employed for data analysis.
Results The results of this study indicated that the majority of participants (64%, n=96) received an unfavorable quality of care. A substantial proportion (34.7%, n=52) received an average quality of care, while only a small minority (1.3%, n=2) were assessed as having a favorable quality of care.
Conclusion Given the unfavorable care situation for the majority of patients with diabetes, quality improvement is essential and necessitates educational enhancement for all healthcare professionals involved in patient care.
