Abstract

Background and Objective: Femoral neck fractures in old age is more a common occurrence and patients with these fractures may not be able to return to their former activity and quality of life is affected. The objective of this study was to present a comprehensive review of the quality of life of patients with femoral neck fracture who were treated in Ahvaz Imam Khomeini hospital, the major center for orthopedics and bone surgery in Southwest of Iran.
Subjects and Methods: Patient with femoral neck fracture medical files were used as an initial data collection and were follow-upped using Eq5d quality of life questionnaire. The data collected also included demographic data and clinical information including the surgical procedure employed and the time lapsed after surgery.Data were analyzed using SPSS V22 software.
Results: 127 patients with fractures of the femoral neck were evaluated. The quality of life scores of patients with femoral neck fracture in the open reduction and internal fixation(ORIF), total hip replacement(THR) and bipolar arthroplasty surgical produces were 9.22±2.77; 5.26±5.41 and 5.32±7.48 respectively. A significant difference in the quality of life of patients in surgery was different.(P=0.03) type of surgery were significantly correlated with the pain (P = 0.001)
Conclusion: The quality of life after treatment of patients with femoral neck fracture is moderate to high. The choice of appropriate plysiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychiatry aid
after surgery and a course of treatment can have a positive impact on improving the quality of life of patients.
