Abstract

Genital Herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted disease in the world especially in women and has high prevalence in developed and developing countries. It has third Couse of sexually transmitted diseases after Gonoccocal and Chlamydia infections in the world. HSV-2 is the main couse of genital herpes . The aim of this study was assessment of the prevalence of HSV-2 in pap-smear samples were investigated from Ahvaz's married women whit PCR method.
Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 276 pap-smear samples from women aged 16-72 years old that refferd to women clinics in 2017 and 2018 years prepared and after DNA extraction, virus identification in samples was performed using specific primers and PCR test.
Results: In this study, 24 samples (%8.7) from married women were contaminated by HSV-2. The highest frequency of infection was observed in the age group of 46-55 years old and in women with normal cytology and mild inflammation.
Conclusions: According to the gathered results it could be concluded that infection prevalence by Herpes virus is more in age group of women with high sexual activity. It could be said that with reference to relatively high infection preference by this virus in active sexually groups, frequency investigation of this virus at 5 years period and programming to increase awareness of general population about disease, its transfer and prevention methods, are necessary and essential to infection decrease in total population at massive level.
